33 Percent of Individuals Spell It German Shepards

By Patti Benashe

I was shocked to learn that about 1 in every three people write out the word German Shepherd wrong, spelling them German Shepards rather. I am amazed that this word is so normally mistyped, & I'm even more amazed to realized that I write it like this for so loads of of my life.

I despise spelling words incorrect and I consistently look to avert it. I'm consistently careful to make sure that I am on point with my spelling, but like every human being, occasionally I simply mess up. The good thing is that I have an effortless way to bear in mind how to properly spell this breed of dog correctly.

Follow my little method here and you certainly will consistently remember that it is not German Shepards, but shepherds.

Remember back to why this kind of dog was bred and perhaps you'll quickly figure this out. The German Shepherd was bred as a working canine, and it was just in the late 1890s that this dog came to existence.

People in Germany needed a dog to help herd sheep. Remember the words herd & sheep this time, & then reverse them. You do not think of the German Shepards (I am kidding) presently as sheep herding dogs, as they're customarily used by police to combat crime, in airports to find drugs, & in other places that rely on the dog's strong olfactory senses.

This, however, is why they were bred, and remembering this should make it much easier to write the word appropriately.

As long as you attempt to keep this in mind any time you write or type out the word, I think you certainly will get it accurately from here. Do not feel too badly regarding it since one in 3 people do write it mistakenly.

I hope this has been helpful. Here's to some spelling successes later in life when it comes to this fantastic type of canine.
