Not many people know that there are a variety of different careers working with animals. Most often when we think about working with animals we picture veterinarians or people who work in a zoo. However, there are some very interesting careers that work closely with different kinds of animals that can be extremely rewarding.

We all have a good idea of what is involved in being a veterinarian, however many of us are not familiar with the veterinary pathologist. This is a scientist who works in a lab examining various specimens and tests to help determine the illness or disease an animal has so a treatment plan can be developed. Many veterinarians have gone on to earn additional degrees to practice animal pathology.

The veterinary pathologist performs the same duties for diagnosing ailments for an animal as a pathologist does in human cases. Veterinary pathology is essential to saving the life of an animal and provides research of diseases in an effort to develop innovative treatment options. These careers pay around one hundred and twenty thousand to one hundred and sixty thousand dollars annually.

Another very fascinating career is the Animal Welfare Lawyer. In addition to the four years of undergraduate studies and then law school, this career requires that the individual study animal health. An Animal Welfare Lawyer works as an advocate for the rights of an animal. The lawyer protects the rights of the animal through veterinarian malpractice lawsuits, and animal welfare cases by representing the animal, or species, that is in danger. The average salary for the Animal Welfare Lawyer is a little over ninety four thousand dollars a year.

Another interesting career opportunity is the animal behavior specialist. Just as the behavior therapist works to study human behaviors to determine why people act the way they do, the animal behaviorist attempts to do the same. The specialist works to determine why the animal is not listening to the owner or does not respond to the training. Additionally, the specialist can diagnose animal depression.

To become an animal behavior specialist one is required to earn a bachelor degree and then a graduate degree. Coursework typically includes the study of mammal biology, ecology, animal plant interaction, evolution, the study of birds, primate behavior, invertebrate zoology, and behavioral neuroscience. The average annual salary is approximately sixty thousand dollars but increases as education and experience increase.

Another career is animal physical therapist or an assistant animal physical therapist. This position performs physical therapy for the animal in much the same way a physical therapist does for humans. The therapist is required to study veterinarian medicine and animal behaviors. The therapist works among animals doing physical therapy exercises and helps by providing coping exercises for anxiety and depression problems. The therapist yearly salary is about sixty thousand dollars.

For the individual who enjoys providing animal care, there are a variety of careers working with animals. In animal care, an individual is able to combine the love of animal care and their interests in other areas like law, psychology, or medicine. People interested in this area of work will find it helpful to investigate the many career options available.
