A Gift Your Cat Will Love

By Angela Suarez

A water fountain for cats is a good way to get your cat to drink more water, especially if you know your cat is not much of a drinker.

Did you know that if cats don't drink enough water that it could make them susceptible to urinary tract infections? It's very true and one of the top reasons you should consider adding one to your home.

While it's true that most house cats don't drink enough, there are also other ways that you can hydrate kitty which is through her diet.

Wet cat food is usually a big treat for cats because it is so flavorful and cats just love anything juicy and covered in gravy. This is also ideal time to get her fluid intake up a little more.

How to Tell If Your Cat Will Like Her Water Fountain

If you're like other cat owners, then a top way to tell if a fountain is a good choice is to look at your cat's behavior around the house (mainly water sources).

It's not a big secret that cats love running water and they especially love to drink it! There is nothing so tasty as fresh, clean water straight from that faucet.

Have you ever caught your cat drinking from the toilet or the water faucet?

If you have, then a pet fountain will become her new favorite toy.

How Does It Work?

Pet fountain designs will vary from brand to brand, however, most are made up of a holding area (where your cat will drink) and the back pump (where water is stored and pumped).

Most will need to be plugged in and there are also maintenance costs involved such as filter replacement and cleaning brushes to routinely sanitize the fountain.

What mostly needs to be done is routine water filling to ensure your cat has plenty to drink.

What to Watch For

One thing you should definitely be careful with is leaving town without knowing how your water fountain functions.

If there is ever a power outage will your cat still have access to the water even if the pump stops working?

One thing you do not want is your cat to be stranded without a way to access her water if the fountain fails, so inspect yours thoroughly and always have a back up source for her even if you are home.

Other than this issue, a water fountain for your pet will be such a treat for her and a great gift for cat lovers who love their cats.
