Keeping Animals With Pet Supplies

By Cindy Mcintosh

A growing amount of families now have dogs, cats, birds, guinea pigs, and additional small creatures as companions. Taking care of these furred household members may be simpler if people use pet supplies that take care of all of the animals' requirements. Veterinarians normally mention that a pet be cared for well by taking it for walks, feeding it, and giving it water as well as providing it with medicines whenever necessary.

Part of an animal's well being includes its proper grooming. Dogs with long hair, like shih-tzus and collies, can become uncomfortable and sick if their fur becomes matted and dirty. In fact, they may even develop sores under the mats. Because of this, most pet care experts recommend that owners take long-haired companions to a professional groomer at least every six to eight weeks for shampooing, brushing, and clipping.

An animal usually also requires feeding and watering twice daily. Felines and canines typically consume dry kibble or moistened canned meat that can add protein and vitamins to their daily diets. Cat food also has thiamine in it, which is a mineral that cats otherwise cannot produce by themselves in their own bodies. Their food provides it for them. Feeding a pet according to a vet's recommendation can prolong its life and active nature.

Supply lists may also feature things such as toys to keep a pet entertained. Dogs like to play fetch, so owners might consider buying squeaky toys like balls, rubber chew bones, twisted ropes, and Frisbees that can be thrown by the owner and fetched by the dog.

Cats also like to play, albeit typically by themselves and not with people. People might purchase balls of yarn, catnip mouse toys, and plastic balls with jingle bells in them to entertain their furry friend.

Going outdoors also helps a pet stay healthy and alert. A cat can benefit from eating outdoor grass, as it helps with the cat's digestion. However, felines are also natural enemies of robins, sparrows, and other small outdoor prey. Owners may be cautioned to watch their cat as it wanders outside. Dogs also might be walked several times a day to allow it to go to the bathroom and run around with its owner.

People who keep proper pet supplies on hand may find it easier to care for their animal companions. Having items in the home to feed, water, walk, and exercise their pet allows the dog, cat, or other animal to stay healthy, active, and alert for many years.
