Do You Lay In Bed Wide Awake

By Jane Smith

Are you one of the many people who finds falling asleep difficult? Have you found yourself staring at the ceiling - wide eyed - hours after you went to bed, feeling more upset by the minute? This is an everyday occurrence for a lot of people. If it's also the situation you find yourself in, you needn't worry. You would be surprised if you knew how many people spend most of their nights staring at the ceiling and counting sheep. Nevertheless, you can easily fall asleep, and stay that way, with just a few minor adjustments to your lifestyle. If you want to enhance your ability to sleep all through the night, read on. We will give you some useful tips in this article.

This should be obvious but we'll say it anyway: stay away from stimulants like caffeine, tobacco, etc close to bedtime. You certainly can get a jump start in the morning with a quick cup of coffee, but it can ruin any chances of resting well if you drink it close to bedtime. One rule a lot of people follow - and it works well for them - is to set a time after which they will no longer drink anything containing caffeine. Herbal teas make a good substitute. One time that a lot of people say is successful is 4:00 pm. That gives their systems plenty of time to clean out any stimulants they may have consumed before they go to bed.

You will sleep better if you keep your room cooler, at least that is what scientists say. This is pretty easy to accomplish during the colder months of the year but in the summer it can be a problem. You will be able to keep a constant cool temperature at night, as long as you have air conditioning or a fan. You can also use the fan or air conditioner as a "white noise" machine to block out background noises that might ordinarily keep you awake.

If you can't fall asleep, it might be because there is too much light in the room. This should be a no brainer but you would be surprised at how many people get frustrated that they can't fall asleep in rooms filled with light. The light won't make much of a difference if you are tired enough. One reason for not being able to sleep in a light room is that the brain doesn't perceive that it is time for sleep, so try to make your room very dark. People who work nights will fall asleep easier after their shift if they use blackout curtains to make the room seem like it is the middle of the night.

If you need to increase the likelihood of your falling asleep, there are many things that you can try. Finding the right option for getting to sleep is a matter of which one will work, from having a bedtime routine, a dark room, a cool room, or even medication. The good news is that a good night's sleep is achievable. To find what is the best solution for you will require running various test.
