Dog Training Tips That Can Work For You!

By Steve Grover

If you want to be happy with your dog and you want it to be happy, training is essential. When your dog has been properly trained, it becomes easier for him to meet your expectations.

It is important to get your dog trained to walk nicely on his leash. This will make your walks together a pleasure and not a source of frustration.

Be sure to feed your dog healthy foods and treats. Eating a poor diet will negatively affect your dog in many ways. Without proper nutrition, your dog can suffer both physically and behaviorally. Something as simple as improving their diet can sometimes have a huge impact on how receptive they are to training.

When using a collar and harness together, only tug on the collar if necessary. This teaches the dog that he must obey you while the harness is on.

Your dog can, and should, find the training experience to be a positive one. Keep training to a short 10-15 minute session; much longer and your dog's attention will wander. When you give your dog rewards, make sure they are varied and as often as needed. When your dog does a good job, shower him with praise. If you make training fun, he will enjoy listening, too.

Do not give your dog too many treats; you could make him gain some weight when you offer an excessive number as rewards. Many people don't take these into account with their diet, but they can add up during active training.

A variety of rewards, such as treats, praise and toys keep your dog interested in pleasing you. These treats cannot be confused with every day treats at first, because you need to create a sense of specialness which will encourage the dog to obey your commands, since they know that the treats they will be receiving are out of the ordinary.

Now that you've found the information you needed, use it to train your dog. Having the right information can help those who did not previously know where to even begin with training a new dog.
