Hints and Tricks To Help First-timers With Rottweiler Training

By David Lamb

Training your four-legged friend can think like a relentless game of tug of war and occasionally your dog appears triumphant. Successfully training a Rottweiler puppy can be demanding but really rewarding. This post will help guide you to a better relationship with your pet by providing various Rottweiler training approaches for your dog.

When you introduce your new bundle of joy to your home, be sure to do it slowly. Give him time to get used to his new environment and if you have resident pets, introduce them the right way. Think about how your current pet will react to a companion and contemplate what your new pet would feel in an unfamiliar situation. You can't expect dogs to have the same personalities particularly if they are of different breeds but with socialization and correct training, they will eventually figure out how to recognize and bond with each other.

If you're beginning any training program for your pet, the most important thing to bear in mind is consistency. Don't confuse your dog with different commands for one behavior. For instance, if you want your pet to stop jumping up on you, don't use both "down" and "off." Being consistent will make Rottweiler training less difficult for the two of you. Spending too much time in any one training session should be avoided too for it can make your precious pooch bored and antsy. Limit the amount of time you train initially to under 10 minutes and make training sessions exciting and interesting if possible.

Positive reinforcement is the most effective method to train your pet. Rewarding your dog when he successfully responds to a command is one great way to motivate him to repeat the behavior he's being rewarded for. Reward could be treat, praise, playtime along with other affectionate gestures. Punishment on the other hand does more harm than good so be careful!

Keeping your pet on a healthy diet is also one key factor that affects training. Eating a poor diet will negatively influence your pet in many ways. Without appropriate nutrition, your dog's general health will suffer and there may also be direct effects on behavior. Feeding your dog high quality food can significantly affect what you accomplish during Rottweiler training sessions.

Giving your dog right exercise routine will greatly help you with training too. Dog breeds such as the Rottweiler have a very demanding exercise life style, when left unchecked they can develop bad habits that moves all the way down the chain. When you take your pet out for a run or walk everyday, it helps by giving him rewards for appropriate behavior, and as an added bonus, the exercise can help you remain fit as well.
