The Tricks And Guidelines Needed For Chihuahua Potty Training

Most dogs, including Chihuahuas cannot hold on to their waste for long periods. Therefore, they pass out waste frequently. This may occur on areas where you do not want them to do it, such as your carpet. However, you can avoid such scenarios by taking your pet through rigorous Chihuahua potty training lessons.

Training should start when the puppy is as young as possible. Study the habits of your chihuahua so that you can determine how often they defecate. You can always follow them outside to see what they are doing. Identify the place where they like visiting and place the potty there. This will enable them identify the need and use of the potty pads.

Dogs react well to commands. Therefore, you should develop a command line or phraseology to use whenever you notice that they are pressed. After some time, they will start identifying with the command and responding to it. However, the line of words used should be the same always so that they do not get confused.

For every occasion the do uses the potty successfully, they should be rewarded. Dogs, like people, recognize when they are adored. Giving them a snack they like will really motivate them to repeat the action over and over until it stick into their mind. At first they may do it for the reward, but eventually, they will do it out of instinct.

Just as humans are prone to forgetfulness, so are Chihuahua. Therefore, you Chihuahua may occasionally forget the use of the potty. However, this should not be followed by a punitive action. Act calmly and just reprimand them about what they are doing. Immediately they stop, lead them to the right place and let them finish their stuff there.

Like every other pet, dogs do not like the smell of their waste. They will always avoid areas that smell of urine or poo. Therefore, make sure you place the potty in a clean area that does not stink. If you notice any form of hesitance, then you should check the spot for stenches and clean it.

Crates can be very useful during the Chihuahua potty training period. This is because dogs do not like sleeping around their waste. Therefore, if the Chihuahua is place in a crate during the night, it will help them to hold on until daylight. Immediately the Chihuahua comes out of the crate, take them where the pads are located so that they can relieve themselves.
