The Link Between Eating Healthy And Your Panic Attacks

By Stacey Tustison

Anxiety and panic attacks are a frequent reality for many people, and they can be very scary, especially if you do not understand what is happening. This article discusses some tips for both people who experience panic attacks and for those who are trying to understand what panic attacks are.

When you feel a panic attack coming on, write down what you are feeling at that time so that you can look back at them to assess what was really happening versus what you thought would happen. Many people have feelings of impending doom and death which is totally against what is happening in reality. When you look back on them at a later time, you can realize these thoughts were far off the situation.

Learn how to help someone who is having a panic attack. If your partner is having a panic attack, there are certain things that you can do to help them. First, never talk down to them or dismiss their fears, rather speak to them with a reassuring but firm tone. Remember to remain calm yourself. It can be very frightening to see someone in the midst of a panic attack, but remember that it will pass.

Avoiding caffeine is very helpful for those wanting to get panic attacks out of their lives. Caffeine is a stimulant and it causes your body to be constantly on edge. It is when your body is on edge that panic attacks are more likely to occur. Try drinking decaf versions of your favorite beverages.

Many people are embarrassed or afraid to confide in family members when they suffer from panic attacks. Studies have shown that panic disorder may be hereditary, affecting other members of the family. Talk to your relatives and you may find allies who suffer as you do and can help you deal with this devastating disorder.

If you experience panic attacks, it is best to not try and fight them when one occurs. If you fight the panic, this will produce more adrenaline and may increase the symptoms. Instead, try your best to sit down and rest and meditate. The panic will subside after a little while.

Recognizing the symptoms of an oncoming panic attack is an important step to stopping them. Watch your breathing, feelings of dizziness, heart beat changes, feeling like you're choking, or lightheadedness. When these feelings come on take a look at your thoughts and try to figure out what's causing your stress. Someone suffering from panic attacks should find some form of exercise that they like doing and do it on a regular basis. It is important for people to realize that there are a lot of stresses that affect their lives. Taking part in exercises that they find entertaining can help relieve some of the panic attack-inducing stress.

Watch out for yellow cheese dye! Some people have a major sensitivity, even allergy, to annatto, which is used to turn cheddar and American cheeses yellow. If you have any food product with this coloring in it, you may get horribly anxious and your heart may start to palpitate wildly. Why not eliminate foods with annatto and see if you notice a difference?

When you begin to feel an attack coming on, you should try to dis-empower the attack. Tell yourself over and over that your attacks have never caused any harm to you and panic attacks have never hurt any one else. Tell yourself that it does not mean anything at all.

Don't let yourself get caught up in the hype! So what if your hands are sweaty, or your heart is starting to pound? Stop the panic attack before it even starts by not allowing the symptoms to overwhelm you. Wipe your hands and do some deep breathing and let it all go away.

Use these tips the next time you have a panic attack, and see which method works best for you. No one wants to have panic attacks, but knowing what you will do if you have one can provide some relief and comfort. Panic attacks can be uncomfortable, but if you have a plan in place they can be bearable.
