Using the Proper Tools for Training Dogs

By Daniel Greer

For over 100 years, people have been using simple tools and strategies to train their dogs. From electric fences, to dog collars with remote controls, people train their dogs completely differently today. Although using advanced tools is a personal choice, both basic and technological training accessories can be useful. You will see in this article several ways to use dog training tools, from basic to advanced, in order to properly train your dog today.

Any dog that pulls their owner is doing something wrong. It is a habit that must be broken fast. It seems that most dogs, given a choice, would rather pull you rather than walk beside you when on a leash. There are many tools that can be used to stop a dog from "dragging" you while walking. There are also techniques that can help break this bad behavior. Many dog trainers use the Four Paws No Pull Trainer to effectively stop your dog from pulling them during the walks. This dog collar will give you extra control over your dog and not choke them while guiding them away from their bad habit. Using this device, you will have great success, regardless of the breed or size of your dog. No matter how big your dog is, or what breed it may be, there are three sizes to choose from with this device.

Without line of sight to the dog, or any supervision at all, some devices will keep dogs out of areas that they should not ever be. From opening cabinets, to jumping up on furniture where they do not belong, dogs are hard to manage at times. One way to prevent this behavior is with something like the Tattle Tale Sonic Pet Training Alarm. This device can go anywhere. Just add batteries, turn it on, and it will start preventing your dogs from doing the wrong things. It emits a loud tone when it detects movement around this area, which will deter your dog from going there. Complete with two different settings, this device will help you train your dog to stay out of certain parts of your home.

Have you heard of a dog whistle? It is a fantastic training device. This device is effective because only the dog can hear the whistle when you blow on it. Training your dog with this whistle begins with adjusting it to the frequency that your dog can hear the easiest. Dog training is simplified when this whistle is used. Whether you are teaching your dog to "sit" or "stay", it can be done with a dog whistle by associating tones with commands that are given. Those of you that have two dogs should buy two whistles. Doing this helps each dog listens to specific commands based upon each whistle.

Dog training tools come in many different forms and these days you can find lots of high tech things as well as simple things. While many of these items can be very helpful for training your dog, remember that the main responsibility still lies with you. No tools can take the place of the time and commitment you have to put into dog training.
