Remote Collars Training with a Mild Push

By Tom Niess

Dogs are generally very intelligent and loving creatures. At their core, they genuinely live to please. But in most cases, dogs need a little helping hand in order to understand which behaviors are desired and which are unacceptable. In this context, dogs are very much like children. They need some guidance to make sure they are following the right path.

In the case of dogs, there have been many training techniques employed over the years both to reinforce good behavior and discourage bad behavior. Just like humans, dogs respond most directly to the application of consequences. A reward for doing something right and a gentle reminder when they are doing something wrong can help them to learn how to act.

A major and effective form of dog training is using the remote collar. This compact unit is set into a dog collar and gives off a very low electrical stimulation to the dog to reaffirm learned behaviors. Remote training collars are ideal for different types of training requirements, such as teaching commands search and rescue or guard dogs, and can be a standard behavioral training device for domestic dogs.

There has been quite a bit of controversy over this particular training method, as some people believe it is unnecessarily cruel, but that is far from true. Modern remote collars have been approved by the Humane Society as a safe and effective training method. Generally speaking, the electrical stimulation from these collars have been likened to the feeling of static electricity, uncomfortable but not harmful. In fact, most remote trainers have a series of settings allowing you to control the intensity of the stimulation your dog receives, and more often than not only the lowest settings will ever be necessary as most dogs learn very quickly.

The objective of the training is to get the dog to connect the unwanted behavior or the command you want them to master with the electrical stimulation. A few varieties even feature vibrate or tone settings that include a simple vibration or tone that can only be heard by the animal to achieve the same objective. Moreover, the results have proven that no matter what level you use, it is rather successful.

Used correctly, remote collar training can be an easy and effective way to improve your dog's behavior and make life more bearable for both of you. You want what's best for you best friend, so why not give remote training a try rather than subject both you and your dog to the frustration of less successful methods?

To be sure remote training is a good experience for you and your canine, it is imperative to get good instruction in this training technique prior to using the collar on your dog. Any training tools used incorrectly can result in additional harm than good, however since remote training is so successful incorrect use can be more even more harmful. Find an expert in your city that can get you going on proper food to complement this strong dog training technique, and you will be shocked at the outcome.
