Every owner of a horse knows the importance great horse care. Horses that are properly taken care of are much happier, and healthier. Horse upkeep is pretty basic. There are only a few important things that need to be done right away.

One of the most important things is regular veterinarian visits. There are special vets just for equines. Stables keep a list of vets on hand. It may be worth talking to the owner of the stable where horse is boarded to find a good one.

If the owner is keeping their horse friend on their property, the responsibility is on them to make sure the horse is well cared for. They make sure that the horse gets a regular check up, and arrange for other specialists that might need to be called in. These specialists perform special procedures that keep the horse healthy.

Grooming, and feeding are two things that the owner can take care of themselves. Grooming a horse keeps their mane from tangling. It keeps their coat healthy, and full of shine. Feeding is something that needs to be done daily, as well.

If boarding stables don't do it automatically, or the owner does not pay for the service, a horse's stable needs to cleaned out regularly. Horses like to have clean hay or straw to lay down. This should be done twice a week at the very least. Some may wish to do it more often to keep the stink down.

Other things that need to be taken care of on a regular basis are the horse's hooves, and dental hygiene. Hooves have various degrees of care that should be taken regularly. Horse shoes should be replaced or repaired when necessary. They should also be cleaned if the need arises. Barefoot horses need to have their hooves picked free of dirt. This can be done by the owner, once a bond has been built between them and their horse.

Bonding with the horse is the most important aspect of horse care. The easiest way to achieve a strong bond is to take the time out to spend quality time alone with him or her. They need a chance to get to know their owner. Pet the horse, and talk to it. Take it out for walks, and maybe even ride it around a bit. These are all things that are going to strengthen the bond. Doing this, and following the other tips that have been mentioned will ensure a very happy horse.
