Dog Training: In which Order Should Commands be Taught?

By Dirk Gruenberg

It is certainly not a surprise for you to hear that dogs are loyal and intelligent companions. Almost everybody who ever had a dog considered his pet to be his best friend. Not only are dogs loyal but they also provide us joy and happiness.

It is a good idea to immediately start with training your puppy. Don't wait too long. Here are a few simple but important facts about dog training: What commands should your dog know and in which sequence should you teach them.

The most basic command is the "Sit" command. So this should be taught first. Very often you not only want to hope your dog behaves but you want to be able to rely on him following this command. When he does it, praise him and have a little treat ready to reward your pet.

The most important goal your puppy has is to make you happy - since you are the pack leader. You show him that by giving him a little treat. Over time instead of giving him the treat just praise him enthusiastically. Then, when he follows your "Sit" command, it is time to move on to "stay."

This is the second basic obedience training for your new pup. Staying will reinforce the first command "sit".

This command is very helpful at times that you want to them to stay in a specific place while waiting for you to come back.

The next command that you can teach your new puppy is to "lie down". Ask your puppy to sit and then let him stay that way for a moment.

Then take the treat and put it close to floor which will become an instinct for them to go lower. As soon as your dog is down on the floor you can give the treat. Repetition is the key to successfully train your pet.

You can do these commands for 15 minutes every day so that they won't forget it. After you are done with the basics, you can go to other commands like: shake hands, stand, heel and so much more.
