Dogs' Ear Infections: 101

Not only human beings can suffer from ear infections. This is a common disease with dogs, too. Here is one of the possible reasons: Certain bacteria can cause an infection. Another reason might be parasites like mites that intrude into the dog's ears' blood vessels.

Overall, dog infections are common but impose a serious problem. When treating an ear infection of your dog without proper knowledge and tools, it can cause trouble and serious pain to your dog's ears as well as permanent damage.

This I why you should be familiar with the symptoms of ear infections and know what to do when the infection appears.

If your dog scratches his ear or vigorously shakes his head this can be a sign for an upcoming ear infection. In this case you should do some testing to verify. In case you do it is recommended you take care of proper treatment.

If you leave the infection untreated this can easily result in further physical and even psychological damage. Also an inflammation of your pet's ear can go together with some strange odor - something you should try to avoid.

Because every infection that has progressed to this stage may consequently lead to hearing problems and as you know this would be a serious complication for your dog.

So it is always a good idea to regularly clean your dog's ears. What you can use is moistened tissues or a cotton cloth to wipe off the ear as gently and carefully as possible.

Naturally, your dog will not be too happy about your ear cleaning efforts. In other words, he will not like it. But be aware that by doing it regularly you make sure that no undetected inflammation occurs.

Seeking help from a veterinarian is necessary because they know what treatment should be utilized on your dog. They will mostly recommend cleaning solutions which can effectively remove bacteria's and substances in the ear.
