Issues You Should Know About Before Installing Your Steam Showers

By Margaret Smith

Steam showers are a quite enjoyable and calming experience but can wreak havoc on the structure and materials of the home if they are not properly sealed. Before making the choice to install them, critical factors has to be considered. The most crucial factor is preparation. The entire walls, floor, ceiling and door have to be completely sealed and water-proof. This requires a polyurethane liner covering all frame work, wood and every possible escape hole in the shower. Any steam that is allowed to escape can cause a lot of damage to the plaster, drywall, and wood that homes are built with.

The door and enclosure must be totally encased, so the steam does not escape from above. A 3/8" gap at the end of the door allows cooler air to enter the shower for a more dense steam experience. Conversion of an existing shower maybe considered. However, a guidance of a skilled professional or a licensed contractor with plumbing and electrical experience is necessary before continuing ahead with the plans. There are modular steam showers which are popular in the market because they are super easy to set up in comparison to building any unit. Setup is almost cut in half in time and expenses and often they come with their component parts built in.

Another consideration is the house water treatment program if the water quality is a concern. Steamers can be employed in addition to a water softener. Good water is a condition which is desirable for drinking as well as protecting the plumbing systems, decorative equipment, faucet and glass from the negative effects of hard water. An automatic drain is also available but not required for the generator. The space going to use may indicate whether a factory unit or custom-designed shower will accommodate anyone's needs. The available hot water volume may need to be increased and the budget and dcor selection must be reviewed.

An expert plumbing and heating firm should be able to assess which system works best in home and provide suggestions for custom spray systems, such as body sprays, overhead shower heads, hand sprays, and multi-directional shower heads. Once installed, the new shower will demand little maintenance. Regular cleaning is encouraged and periodic draining of the system and physical inspection of the electrical components are advised. Aesthetic taste maybe will clash with what is envision in the shower room looking like since lots of prefabricated modular units are available in a very modern look. The downside is the expenses in extra plumbing and labor.

Steam showers are incredibly economical way to relax in your own home. They can conserve water and electricity in comparison with whirlpool tubs. Two to three fills of the tub can give the showerer a year's worth of steam showers. 110V can be utilized for the steam unit to save cost for the electric bill because the costs of running the 220v electricity line will get very costly. It is the most common units used in many homes today and do not present any problems.
