You Will Not Believe How Easy It Is To Train Your Dog When You Stick With These Tips

By Steve Brian

Having a dog can be one of the great joys in life. But when they aren't acting the way you want them to, they can also be the most frustrating. Don't lose heart; there are some effective ways to get your dog to behave. Here are some good ways to start training your dog.

Try to limit the length of each training session to less than 45 minutes. If you keep training them for longer than this your dogs will start to become too tired. This also will lead to a lack of concentration and eventually to frustration from both you, and your beloved pet.

If you are a member of a large family who is training a dog, it is important that everyone is on the same page. If you are trying to teach your dog not to beg, but your brother is offering him table scraps, then all of your hard work will be for nothing.

While the occasional punishment will probably be necessary, dogs generally respond much better to rewards than punishments. This means you should always show praise and treats for good behavior in an effort to recognize and reinforce it. Additionally, you should reserve punishment and shame for only the worst moments.

While your dog should obey all humans, it is very important that they have only one master. This does not mean that he won't listen to the commands of others, but that there is one individual who is clearly the highest in command. Otherwise, the dog may feel confused and insecure.

If you are a dog owner, then you may think that it is impossible to train your dog, but this does not have to be true. Dog training is very simple, and can be done by even the most busy owners, once they have taken the time to understand what the dog needs.

While there are dozens of great, professional dog trainers available, if it is at all possible, it is much better for you to train your dog yourself. This is because the dog will then see you as its master and respect you and your orders to a much higher degree.

Since dogs are pack animals, they generally crave leadership. Of course, the occasional pet will be a natural alpha, but even they can be subjugated. It is important that you show your dog you are the alpha, or the leader for two reasons, he will obey better, and he will feel more secure.

Walking your dog is one of the most important aspects of dog training. It is during these walks that you establish dominance. It is essential that you are in command of the walk and not the dog. This means that you should always be in the lead, with your dog walking beside, not in front of, you.

If you are a dog owner, then you may think that it is impossible to train your dog, but this does not have to be true. Dog training is very simple, and can be done by even the most busy owners, once they have taken the time to understand what the dog needs.

Try these tips and see how well they work. It will not happen overnight, but sooner or later your dog will start responding. This will mean you can relax a little. A great dog can be a great friend, but you've got to take a little time to train him first.
