What You Need To Know About Mole Treatment

By Richard Quinn

Moles are dark marks of varying sizes that appear on the surface of the skin. They can grow on the skin randomly at various parts of the body which may include the face and other areas. Some people are born with moles but others get them over time as they grow. Many people pay much attention to how they look and what others think about them. This is why mole treatment is very common.

Some of the moles are small and may also be referred to as beauty spots. On the other hand, some moles are big. In the world of today, many people are very cautious of their appearance and such skin defects cause emotional problems. These problems include lowering of the self esteem of an individual which affects their confidence. One cannot easily tell if a mole is cancerous unless they see a dermatologist or doctor so as to be screened. This mass of skin often causes discomfort to an individual as sometimes it affects how one looks.

The cause of moles has not been clearly defined but it has been proven to be influenced by genetic factors. Certain kinds of moles may be common in a certain family due to hereditary factors which have been passed down from one generation to the next. Recent studies show that exposure to sunlight can influence the growth of moles.

Mole treatment is not very necessary, though many people go through various procedures due to cosmetic reasons. Most of the treatment methods have various disadvantages and health risks. One is advised to see a doctor or dermatologist before trying to use their own treatment method. In many occasions tissue samples are taken so as to establish their nature. Cancerous tissues are mostly surgically removed so as to prevent the serious health risks that they pose.

It is important to note that screening is important so as to establish if they are cancerous in nature. In such cases, the doctors or dermatologists take tissue samples for screening so as to establish presence of any cancerous tissues. Generally, moles do not have any health risk. Most people go for treatment so as to improve their appearance or get rid of the discomfort.

Over the years, different methods have been made to treat moles. Some creams which prevent and slow down the growth of the moles have been developed. Many people prefer the skin growth to be totally removed. This makes the surgical and laser removal methods very common. The shave excision method is mostly used to cut deep moles. During this process the surgeon uses a scalpel to cut out the mole together with the surrounding skin. For this kind of cut, the skin is stitched to hasten the healing of the wound.

In some cases the surgeon can cut the mole off without cutting deep into the skin. This method heals relatively faster and is not very expensive to get done. Also, laser technology has become very instrumental in mole treatment methods. The laser cuts the mole precisely with great accuracy.

Many patients can develop infections from the wounds developed from cutting of the moles. Also, a number of patients have allergic reactions to the anesthesia used. In some cases nerves are damaged during the removal process.
