Deciding Upon Airline-Approved Pet Carriers

By Jean Tomboc

You care about your pet and wish to take him/her with you on your flight "what's the easiest way to assure a secure and comfortable flight for your pet? Ensure you have a safe, airline-approved pet carrier for the flight; otherwise, you may not even proceed past the ticket counter.

Call ahead and raise questions

To make sure that you've got an airline-approved per carrier, call the airline and ask what their needs are for airline-approved pet carriers. Don't rely on policies and laws from earlier travels because policies and rules change. Contact the airline and ensure that you pet carrier meet the most current guiding principles and needs. After determining the correct specs, you should purchase an acceptable carrier that meets both the needs of your pet and the airline specs. What are a selection of the requirements of your pet that you must consider when selecting a carrier?

Consider size

Select a carrier that is the proper size and that can accommodate your pet. While smaller animals might be permitted to travel with you in their carrier as carry-on luggage, larger animals must travel in a new compartment. You need to ensure that your pet has enough space to lie down and enjoy some limited movement. To ensure your pet's comfort, you need to also give him/her a short period of time to adjust to the carrier prior to the flight.

Allow pet to familiarize carrier

Take a little time before the trip to familiarize your pet to the airline-approved pet carrier. You may place your pet inside of the carrier, and then take him/her on a short ride in an automobile to help in making him/her more relaxed with riding inside the carrier. In the event that you have bought a carrier that isn't airline authorised, you can purchase an appropriate carrier from the airfield, but you will not have the same opportunity to introduce your pet to the carrier and assure the carrier is acclimatised to your pet.

Worst Case Eventuality

Also, provide pet identification in case the carrier is somehow misplaced or the pet escapes. Place a collar on your pet which has current information. You might or might not include an identification chip. Make some arrangements for locating your pet in case of any accidents or misplacement.

One of your most important priorities is ensuring that you have an airline-approved pet carrier. Without airline approval, you can't even begin the flight. You should also ensure that your pet is cosy inside of the carrier. Your pet will spend some amount of time in the carrier, so you should make sure that the pet is snug.
