Have Cat Food

By Rozella Timenez

As a proud and loving cat owner, the health and well-being of your pet is primarily in your hands. Sure, regular veterinary visits are necessary, but perhaps just as important is providing essential nutrition for your cat's diet. Just like humans, eating healthy food is vital to optimal health for your cat. Maybe you thought all cat foods were made equal and are wondering if its all that serious. Understanding what makes a healthy cat food will undoubtedly help you choose the best option available for your pet.

If a dog owner were to look at the ingredients of any given prepackaged bag of dog food, he or she may wonder if these companies are selling food for dogs or just getting rid of their garbage. It could shock some to see things like bone meal, animal byproducts, and any number of things you would think are inedible as major parts of your pet's diet. These ingredients may be fine for plants, insects, or possibly creatures from other planets, but most household pets are sure to become ill from this waste being passed off as food.

Many of these items are simply not conducive for your dog's digestive system, and often leave unusable remnants in the animal's system that are difficult to get rid of. The amount of protein content listed on the package, of course, will seem sufficient and beneficial for your dog's good health. However, most pet owners are not told that these high levels of protein come at the cost of low digestibility for their dog. Although most dogs have difficulty processing a lot of plant-based products, dog food companies usually boost their protein content with soybean meal or soy flour, corn and wheat gluten, and other grains not suitable for canine digestion.

Firstly, it is a good idea to use a combination of both dry and canned wet food in your cats diet. Because all cats do not drink enough liquids in a given day, this point is essential to help them stay hydrated. The canned food will supplement any water loss or deficiency, helping guard against illness.

Of course, knowing your cat's weight and daily activities is very important for determining your cats food regiment. Overeating almost always leads to major health problems for even the most active cat breeds. The majority of cats that are overweight become that way through consistent inactivity and overeating even slightly. For these heavier, less active cats, it is crucial to give them cat food with a light formula. On the other hand, food with higher fat content is a good recommendation for those cats that play outdoors, or are otherwise more active.

It can be a great challenge to check the labels of every single cat food brand, and then research all of the many strange ingredients that are listed. Even so, learning even a little about the most essential ingredients for a cat's ideal diet will take you a long way. On the label, the primary source of protein should always be listed first, followed by carbohydrates filler, fats and oils, preservatives, as well as secondary proteins like vitamins, minerals, and taurine.

Staying with one particular brand of food is not always necessary. With an understanding of your own cat's basic dietary needs, you should be able to choose the healthiest options whether the food has a brand name or not. With such a base knowledge, you could purchase a variety of canned and dry food flavors, therefore allowing you to create different meals through alternating combinations. Your cat will surely love being treated to different mixtures of flavors and textures everyday. No matter what, always remember that the healthier your cat is, the happier it is, and the happier it is, the happier you are sure to be.
