The Most Effective Tinnitus Treatments

By Graeme Teague

While tinnitus is a problem that affects many people, it has no simple cause or cure. There's no "one size fits all" treatment for this problem, as it's really a symptom shared by people with very different medical histories. So when we describe various treatments for tinnitus, some might be very helpful to you while others may not apply. On the other hand, this is also good news because it means there's a treatment for every type of situation.

Chiropractors and massage therapists can both be helpful in helping to relieve tinnitus symptoms, strange as this may sound. Very often, the exact cause of tinnitus is impossible to determine, but a good masseuse or chiropractor can help to both relax you and put your whole body into alignment. Even if this doesn't represent a cure, it can often relieve the problem and make it more bearable. Since stress and tension contribute to just about every medical condition, relieving these can be very helpful. Cranial-sacral therapy would be the most appropriate system to choose if you want to find relief for tinnitus, as this addresses the neck and head quite a bit. This approach may give you significant relief, and if you also pay attention to your diet and other everyday habits it can be even more effective.

One way to make tinnitus more bearable is to use white noise to help make you less aware of the ringing, humming or buzzing sound in your ears.

There are various devices that produce white noise and these can help you work, sleep or engage in other activities while being less aware of tinnitus symptoms. Aside from this, you can wear headphones and listen to a variety of relaxing sounds. This approach is not a cure for tinnitus, but it can help make you less aware of it. This is something you won't be able to do all the time, but it's good to have it available when you need it. While you search for a more lasting cure, you may be able to get some temporary relief by using white noise.

By eliminating certain foods or substances from your diet you may be able to reduce or even eliminate tinnitus from your life. Some people notice that their tinnitus symptoms can be connected to certain foods or habits, so if they stop eating these foods or perhaps stop smoking or drinking they can reduce or eliminate their symptoms. If your tinnitus is caused by something like hypertension, then you have an even more important reason to watch your diet, and this will help lower your blood pressure as well as eliminating your tinnitus. Even though most cases of tinnitus don't have a definite cause such as high blood pressure, it's still possible that symptoms are triggered by various foods or substances.

It may take some experimentation to identify definite patterns with your tinnitus symptoms, but if you can find any you'll have clues to how you can get relief.

Getting relief from tinnitus is seldom easy, so you'll need some patience and perseverance as you search for a cure. Tinnitus can be a stubborn problem, and many times even your doctor can't explain why you hear a ringing in your ears. Like many people, you may have had difficulty finding an effective tinnitus treatment, but don't give up the search and be open to trying new approaches.
