What You Can Do Once You Know That You Have Scabies

By Neville Stanley Xavier

If you have never heard of scabies before, it is a little difficult to identify the symptoms since you won't know what to look for. It is actually a common condition, in which little mites called scabies infest a person in a variety of ways. This insect is so small that it is able to drill down into your skin, in the upper layer, causing many issues and irritation.

The mites that do survive are able to lay eggs in your skin which will later hatch out causing a larger infestation. Though it may not happen to you, outbreaks are common which are made possible due to a variety of circumstances. People that contract scabies must have physical contact with someone else that has it for an extended period of time.

It only takes a minute for your doctor to perform a quick, painless test on your rash to give you a confirmed diagnosis. If you develop a rash that itches a lot, try to remember who you might have been exposed to that has the same, intense itching problem. The initial symptom your doctor will see will usually be a red rash. Pimple-like bumps may also be present. To diagnose your symptoms, your doctor or his assistant will lightly scrape the rash and study it under their microscope. The size of a mite has been compared to a grain of pepper so it's easy to understand why it's necessary to view the sample under magnification.

Scabies travels from the skin of one person to another, which requires a reasonable period of time for this contact to occur.

There are two completely different sets of circumstances with people and scabies mite infestations. Above we explained the length of time it takes for the symptoms to appear the first time someone is infested. Unfortunately, if a scabies mite infestation comes back, so will your excruciating symptoms - and this time much faster than the first time. Because the first infestation caused your body to become sensitized to the mite, your symptoms on subsequent infestations will start much sooner. Treatment will almost always be necessary in order to kill of the scabies mites and eggs. If you are lucky, you body will react to the mite infestation, via an allergic reaction, and eliminate the mite before it can cause problems. The odds that this allergic reaction will trigger your immune system and kill the mites are slim. The most likely situation is that you will have to go to your doctor. Scabies symptoms can often exist for a period without the person knowing what is going on. And to make matters more complicated, many strains of the scabies mite exist. Most strains of scabies mites will have symptoms that aren't the same as other strains. However, the one symptom that is found in all the different strains is extreme itching. Your immune system doesn't like foreign bodies invading your skin and, as a result, it forms antibodies to fight the foreign invaders. This "war" on your behalf is what causes the intense itching you will experience. The wisest course of action, when you have these acute itching patches of skin, is to make an appointment to see your doctor.

With so many health problems confronting us nowadays, it is no wonder health care is unquestionably a huge issue. If you would like a career which may always be sought after, consider becoming a registered nurse. You are going to constantly have employment, and you will have decent cash.
