Tips On How To Get Rid Of Blackheads

By Alison Heath

Blackheads are formed when a tiny hair follicle becomes clogged with excess sebum (the natural oil that keeps the skin soft) mixed with keratin and dead skin cells. This forms a waxy plug in the follicle. When exposed to the air it oxidizes and turns dark brown even though it's naturally a yellowish color.

Getting Rid of Blackheads Temporarily

If you want to get rid of blackheads, then try using the following methods.

First of all, wash your face using an anti blackhead facial wash. These may contain small beads for exfoliating and benzoyl peroxide. This type of face wash can be used once per week. Using this can dissolve the top of the plug of sebum. This takes off the black layer so that you may think that the blackhead is gone, but it is not. It only became less noticeable because it's smaller and paler. It will soon turn dark brown again.

You need to prepare a steam bath for the face. Just put hot water in a bowl and bend your face over it, without touching the water. In order for the steam to be focused on your face, put a towel over your head. To open up all the pores, remain like this for 5 minutes.

You can try using one of the following methods in order to remove the blackheads.

A blackhead removing face mask. This will continue the work of dissolving the plug of sebum that is clogging the pore. Salicylic acid is what it may contain and you may want to leave it on for about 10-15 minutes.

What is a blackhead extractor? This device should be sterilized I boiling water before and after you use it. What you need to do is press the hole over the blackhead in order for the plug to pop out. Avoid pressing too hard or you may scar your skin. Be careful not to damage the skin when you rotate the extractor as this can sometimes help with stubborn blackheads.

Blackhead remover strips. You can stick these adhesive strips onto your nose or affected areas. Make sure the skin is dry if you have just steamed. Follow directions on the package, but be aware that the adhesive can be an irritant if you have sensitive skin.

Do not squeeze the blackheads. The skin will be more sensitive than usual and will have been softened by the steam so it's possible you can scar it.

After blackhead removal, apply an antiseptic liquid or wash. Splash plenty of cold water onto your face to close the pores.
