Train your dog according to the role he or she will play! Dogs that are going to be used for police work - or in search and rescue - are trained using methods that will strengthen the drive they naturally have. Use their favorite toy as a reward! The goal is to have a dog that will work for extended periods of time because he or she knows that they will get play time when the work is done!

When training your dog it is important that you are positive and upbeat. You should always focus on rewarding your dog for what he has done right, rahter than punishing him for what he has done wrong. Punishing your dog is not the best way to train your dog. The only thing that punishment and cruelty does is teach your dog to be afraid of you.

When you are training your dog, remember to take frequent breaks and not try to teach too much all at once. Your dog will quickly become overwhelmed and refuse to follow directions if the training period is too long. So ensure your sanity and your dogs by teaching in small increments.

A vital part of dog training is to give the animal enough exercise. Dogs need to feel they have a calm and confident leader of the pack, in order for them to feel more secure. When you exercise with your dogs, they learn to follow you and they build their confidence in you as a leader. This helps the dogs to be more responsive to commands, when you train them.

Dogs in the big city need specialized training to handle the circumstances the city brings up. Consider socializing your dog to a large gathering in small doses before a move to the city. Walking your dog on a leash by large, calm gatherings and rewarding them heartily will help your dog make positive associations with lots of people.

Dogs much like people all have their own personality. Some dogs can just be more difficult to train than others for whatever reason. If someone has a dog like this that is not responding to training or otherwise acting difficult sometimes the right choice is to seek a professional dog trainer for help and information.

Start out using a clicker for dog training rather than voice commands. Dogs do not understand human language easily. Using a clicker at the beginning of training allows the dog to easily associate simple clicks with positive behavior. Once your dog understands simple clicking actions, you can replace the clicks with very simple voice commands.

Since you have learned these new facts, you will now able to enjoy having a calmer more obedient dog that will surely provide better benefits that you and your whole family can enjoy. Put this information to use today and see firsthand just how much easier it is to train your dog
