Walking Two Dogs at Once

By Allyson Westcot

Many dog lovers have more than one dog. While this often the double-purchase of many things like leashes, harnesses and dog collars, it could also mean a lot more fun for both dogs and people. It can also be tiring and maddening if either or both dogs pull, jerk and try to chase other animals. If you are walking a dog with each hand and both pull, the walk can get tiring fast. Using an extension for two dogs is the best solution.

For dogs that walk reasonably well and don't pull, any dog leash is perhaps suitable. A standard coupler hooked to a basic leash extends the leash out in two directions to make walking 2 dogs straightforward. You'll be able to find a variety of extensions, but a basic one will generally work well with any leash. Designed especially for little dogs, shorter extensions are available, also.

A leash designed for pulling dogs is a good option for those that don't walk calmly. This type of leash has built-in elasticity that offers relief to your arm and shoulder. An extension attached to this type of training leash is a great pairing for walking two dogs when either or both have a tendency to pull.

You can walk your dogs with one hand if you an extension, while you've a hand free to carry a cell-phone, cup, bag of groceries or other items. And there is not any chance one dog might cause both of their leashes to end up hopelessly tangled. The design of a two-dog extension keeps this from occuring, and keeps you from spending more time untangling than walking.

A few individuals with multiple pets walk 3 or 4 at a time with two leashes and extensions. The extensions help prevent the dogs from getting tangled, so a multi-dog walk could be a lot more for fun everybody.
