Considering Havanese Puppies For Sale

By Lenore Bolton

A dog can be the perfect companion because of their loving nature and loyal tendencies. It is important to make sure that one chooses the right kind of pet for their living situation as well as personality compatibility. Those who live in apartments and like small animals that like to cuddle, might like to consider looking for Havanese puppies for sale.

There are some very distinct physical characteristics that make this sturdy toy breed stand out from others. They have a short body with a deep chest and rounded head with a small, squared muzzle. In general, their coat is long and silky and comes in a wide range of colors and always looks adorably rumpled.

Their mussy look only adds to their charm and goes very well with their sweet personality. The average height for one of these pups is around 8 - 10.5 inches and a healthy dog will weigh somewhere between seven and fourteen pounds. This is a great size for an animal that will be living in an apartment or home with limited space.

Personality wise, this breed is a rich as it gets. They are very entertaining and love to amuse themselves and others by playing and taking on agility challenges like attempting to pull their treats out of a trap-toy. They are amazingly obedient though there is the issue of the occasional stubborn streak.

A gentle and affectionate manner is standard for this people-oriented breed that craves attention. They are known for being very compatible with children, the elderly and other pets but are wary of strangers and may take to hiding when unfamiliar people are around. They make great watchdogs, barking when someone is at the door, but they are not aggressive and are not known to attack.

They have little need for a yard since this type of pup does not prefer to spend a lot of time outdoors. They have the cat-like tendency of climbing up on the back of furniture and perching to keep an eye out on things around them. Companionship is important to this breed and when left alone for very long they may bark or begin chewing on things because this is how they express their depression and unhappiness.

That behavior can be averted by having a second pet or finding a specific object, like the television or radio, that soothes the pet when left alone. When adopting this breed, one should be aware that barking should be curtailed from a very young age as they do tend to do it excessively if not taught properly. One needs to have patience when it comes to housebreaking these dogs because they are naturally slow to train, but they learn it well.

To avoid their long silky coat from becoming a matted mess, many owners choose to keep their dogs clipped short because it is easier to care for and still makes them look adorable. When looking at Havanese puppies for sale, one should consider all aspects of the breed before making a decision. In general, they are wonderful companions for those who love affection from their pets and have limited living space or very little yard.
