With a puppy comes a lot of responsibility. You will also want to train your pup, especially if you plan to have him inside. With the right techniques in dog training Washington DC residents can have a pup that listens to your commands. These are a few tips that can help you once you are ready to train.

Whatever approach you take with your pup, the most important thing to keep in mind is that you must be firm. Show them who is in charge, or who is the leader between you two. When you stand firm, it has a better effect on them when you are trying to train them, regardless of what it is you are trying to teach them.

One of the things that will help you be effective when you teaching your pup is to use negative association when something bad was done. Rewards should be used when your pup has done something good. You must be careful, and avoid rewarding when something bad was done. For example do not let them go outside and play when they barked excessively.

With a puppy, one of the things you will have to teach them is to not bite people. When your puppy starts to bite you, it is important to let out a yell, even if it does not hurt. Then pull away from your pup and go to a place where you are not in sight for a while. Continue to do this each time your pup tries to bite you. They will soon realize that every time they bite you, that is when you stop playing with them, and they will soon stop.

It is normal for your pup to bark, since this is how he communicates. The task is not train them to stop bark, but to simply control the excessive barking. In order to control excessive barking, you must figure out what is causing him to bark that way. Many times they simply bark because they are feeling anxious, especially when the owner leaves, or to simply alert you that someone is there.

After you figure out what is triggering them to bark you can work on correcting it. For example, if your pup barks excessively due to loud noises, then you can adjust the volume. Using negative association will help you when trying to get them to stop barking excessively. One negative association technique is to put rocks in a bottle and rattle it any time the pup barks. Soon he will associate barking with the rattling and will stop to avoid hearing the rattling.

Teaching your pup how to do his business outside and in a specific area is going to take a lot of patience. While teaching them to do this, you will need to take them outside to that specific area every hour. When they do their business in that area, you should reward them so they can know they have done something good.

When it comes to dog training Washington DC residents can try these tips. There are also products such as a collar or sprays that can help you when you are doing this process. The most important thing to keep in mind is to be consistent with the technique you are using, as well as patient.
