The Correlation Of Skin Care And Acne

By Yolanda Reyes

How can you avoid acne infections with simple skin care techniques?

Oh, yes, it is very possible, as there are some common sense skin care techniques that could nip acne at the bud and help you avoid it. Here are those techniques. We shall not waste your time as we now present some great ideas to stay away from acne.

Regularly wash your face

Wash your face with a mild cleanser three times a day. You also want to wash your face after exercise. There is a reason why you should not use just any kind of cleanser, and that is because harsh soaps and cleansers, especially if used in concert with a rough scrub, can exacerbate acne. Though scrubbing will not improve acne; it can make the problem worse. Oh, and don't forget to rinse your face after each wash.

Shaving and acne

For the boys and men, you can enjoy added comfort when shaving by using an electric or safety razor. Just make sure to use a sharp blade when using a safety razor. Those who have a beard that can make Paul Bunyan blush can soften it with some soap and water before shaving cream is applied on it. Nicking blemishes can be avoided by shaving lightly and only when necessary.

Avoid touching your skin too often

Avoid touching your pimples with a ten-foot pole - overhandling them (i.e. squeezing or popping them) could lead to dark and ugly-looking lesions. They should also avoid rubbing and touching their skin lesions.

Sunburn and suntan - twin terrors for skin with acne

A lot of over the counter treatments for acne can make your skin more susceptible to sunburn. Sure, sunburn and suntan may have a positive effect at first - the change in skin pigmentation disguises the blemishes, and overall your skin feels drier. But such benefits are but fleeting. Intense exposure to the sun, after all, can cause the skin to age more quickly. You may also expose your skin to the dangers of cancer.

A quick final word on cosmetics

For the ladies, you will want to sacrifice the use of some makeup if you are getting treatment for acne. Cosmetics you use should be oil free. It will be hard to apply foundation evenly during the first few weeks of treatment. The use of topical ointments with the active ingredients tretinoin or benzoyl peroxide could cause the skin to redden or have a scaly consistency. Also, the use of oily hair products could cause complications on the forehead area, including closed comedones. So it is advisable to use products that are labeled as noncomedogenic. And, in some people, even these products may cause acne. Be wary of the cosmetics you use to avoid the chances of developing, or aggravating acne.
