Once in a while it's critical to transport and travel with your pet snake on board. In these examples, there are three basic points to think about when Travelling with a snake: heat, sound, and security, though not necessarily in that order. By keeping these three basics in mind when getting ready for and during your travel, you'll be certain to arrive at your destination securely and safely.
Like many reptiles, and even humans, snakes 'hear ' thru vibrations. Though they have no outer ear, their interior ear picks up vibrations that their brain then interprets as sound. These vibrations allow snakes to feel the sounds of their surroundings. If you haven't already put 2 and two together, travel in a vehicle is a regular bombardment of vibration. These vibrations can be very nerve-wrangling to a snake. So as to make the trip as pet friendly as feasible for your snake, you are going to want to think about any or all systems of reducing vibration and sound for your snake during travel.
One of the best paths to reduce vibrations is by placing soft froth around your snakes travel container, especially concentrating on the space between the floor and the bottom of the container. Generally, a 3-5" thick piece of froth works adequately to attenuate vibration and sound. Another great way to reduce sound is by placing balled up newspaper or other soft items inside the container with your snake. This not only acts as a sound barrier but also provides great hiding spots for you snake. Naturally, reducing all sound and vibration is most unlikely , however , these practices and careful driving technique can also help. It is also good practice to close and open doors fastidiously and silently, and to limit the amount of heavy music you play during travel.
Your snake will also have to be soundly contained. Just like any other pet, your snake must have their own place they can feel secure and safe. You don't need a huge aquarium for transport as your snake doesn't need exercise or liberty to ramble during travel. A suitably sized plastic container will work fine so long as it's got a secure lid or top. You'll also want to be sure your snake has satisfactory ventilation and does not finish up buried beneath other luggage.
Finally, your snake will need to keep hot during travel. Heat packs work fine if the temperature goes below 60 degrees and can persist for up to 60 hours at a time, though no more than 24 hours of travel time is recommended for your snakes health and sanity. When setting up your snake's temperature, it is wise to have a digital temperature gauge in his travel container to monitor how he is doing. Never place your snake without delay on a heat pad or pack as you can significantly endanger or even kill a snake by doing so. Always ensure that there's a fabric or blanket over the heat source that he will not be in a position to penetrate or worm his way into during travel. Doing this will protect him and possibly save his life. It is also an excellent idea to test and watch your snake's container's temperature before you travel to guarantee everything runs smoothly and without Problems.
Although it is a rare case to need to transport your snake, it's always best to be prepared and take all care to avoid situation and accidents. Considering these 3 basic things "sound, heat, & security "when Travelling with your pet snake can and will reduce stress and make Travelling simpler for both you and your pet.
