Do you want to get a dog that does not shed? Then you should beware that there is a difference between dogs that don't shed and short-hair breeds. They are not the same. Many short-hair breeds shed tremendously - Dalmatians for example.
On the other hand, the Lhasa Apso, for example, has extremely long hair, but interestingly it actually sheds very little. I hope I could make this difference clear.
In fact, there are no dogs that don't shed at all - that's natural and normal for any animal, but some dogs shed very little, have no dandruff and don't have that specific dog smell.
So, if you would rather have a dog that sheds little, make your choice accordingly. Then you might want to consider the three following:
The Bichon Frise: The bichons are among the cutest pets, and, while they don't shed, they do require daily grooming and frequent visits to a stylist to have their hair cut - if the hair gets too long, they may develop eye problems.
Shih-Tzus: It is almost impossible not to love Shih-Tzus. They are so unique, they capture many hearts. They also go by the name of "lion dog", since they are adventurous like lions. Or so some people say.
Shih-Tzus do require a lot of care though. Since they can be very fussy about their experience, they will let you know when they are unhappy. If you want to get one, you should be willing to make frequent trips to your dog stylist. Simple grooming will hardly do.
And, moving on, the Portuguese Water Dog: The trickster of the pack, the Portuguese water dog will make you laugh, while stealing the bacon from under your nose.
They are fairly athletic and being physically active makes them very happy. Swimming is an ideal past time for them, and if you can provide swimming opportunities for them, they will be so much the happier for it.
