Finding Tinnitus Treatments That Work For You

By Graeme Teague

Unfortunately, there's no one cure or remedy for tinnitus that's effective for everybody. Because tinnitus comes in various forms and has many different causes, treatments for it are also very diverse. When you consider the following tinnitus remedies we'll be covering in this article, remember that some will be more relevant for you than others. This also suggests, however, that there's at least one remedy that will work very well for you.

If you're experiencing hearing loss as well as tinnitus, you may want to consider getting a hearing aid.

The main benefit of a hearing aid, naturally, is to help you hear better; however, some people find that it also gives them relief from tinnitus. If your hearing is impaired, you'll tend to be very aware of any tinnitus symptoms, but a good hearing aid can return your attention to the sounds coming from the outside world. Even if this doesn't entirely remove your tinnitus symptoms, it can be a relief to be less aware of them.

In some cases, the best treatment for tinnitus is to remove wax from your ears. There are lots of ways to do this but some are definitely better than others. If you have guessed (or been informed) that ear wax is causing your tinnitus symptoms, ask your doctor to remove the excess wax. Attempting the removal on your own isn't a good idea because you may wind up simply forcing the wax further into your ears, which will do even more damage than has already been done. Candle waxing has also become popular but you might accidentally burn yourself. If you want to try a safe method for removing ear wax, use ear drops made for this purpose, or some warm (not hot) olive or baby oil. Allow the oil to circulate in your ear canal and then allow it to drip freely back out.

There are lots of tinnitus treatments, although not all of them will work for everybody. Many of the treatments can be safely applied by anyone, so they're worth trying. Of course, your doctor may recommend a certain medication or procedure. The important thing is to keep an open mind and not to give up seeking an effective treatment for tinnitus.
