Things That You Need To Know About Dog Training

By Falicity Hobart

It is very common in households around the world to incorporate dogs and other domestic animals into the family home. Puppies often start out as destructive and somewhat difficult to control, though. Use the advice in this article, and train your dog properly.

Everyone in the family should be encouraged to maintain consistency with the commands used to train the dog. If you use different commands for each action, like using "down" and your wife using "lay," your dog will get confused. Focus on specific commands for your dog and teach everyone the right way to say them and you will reach your dog training goals.

To have success in dog training, you need to be able to control it with commands. Put yourself in an authoritative position, so that your dog knows to obey you. Avoid allowing your dog to lead you during walks. Instead, walk in front of your dog to show that you are the leader of this pack.

Keep your dog on a healthy diet. An unhealthy diet can have several negative effects on your dog. It can make your dog behave badly and is not good for their health. Something as simple as improving their diet can sometimes have a huge impact on how receptive they are to training.

Make sure to give your puppy plenty of toys that are okay to chew, so that he isn't tempted to chew other things that aren't okay to chew. Instead of allowing it to continue chewing on your important furniture or toys, provide a well-loved chew toy. In cases where your puppy is suffering a great deal of pain, try soaking a washcloth in water and freezing it as a numbing chew toy.

Mentally stimulating your dog is important to its health and happiness. Great activities together include simple walks and playing with toys, especially if the toys are filled with peanut butter. Without proper stimulation, bored dogs will find things to do, such as chewing up drywall, clothing or furniture!

A clicker is a good way to reinforce behaviors. The clicker works when you make an association between positive events and the clicker being used. Start by clicking and immediately giving a reward, and repeat this several times a day for a few days. Over time, your dog will learn that the clicking noise means he is doing something correctly.

Ensure that your dog understands the rules. Everyone in your house needs to enforce these strict rules. This will undo all your training!

By now, every dog owner should be aware of how easy dog training can really be. With the right owner mindset, followed with the proper knowledge, training a dog can be accomplished. The right training can help every dog thrive and be well behaved.
