Think Your Dog Is A Lost Cause? Try These Tips For A Well-Mannered Pet!

By Steve Mary

Many people love having a pet in the family, and dogs are the most popular pet. Puppies often start out as destructive and somewhat difficult to control, though. If you want to learn a few tip about training a dog, read on.

Behavior problems that suddenly occur with no reason may indicate a medical problem that needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian. If an animal is suffering from pain or an undiagnosed condition, it may react aggressively to certain stimuli or behave in an atypical manner. This is how animals communicate the fact that there is something wrong with them, since they are unable to inform us directly.

A big dog that enjoys stretching or lying on his back needs an appropriately sized bed. There are rectangular beds for pets, or you can get a crib mattress for your dog. There are several advantages to doing this since you are able to change the cover with frequency and ease when using fitted sheets. Another advantage is that these mattresses are waterproof.

Always use your dogs name when you need his attention. You must have a good response from your dog in order to have a proper amount of control. Call your dog by name 10 times each day until he readily responds to your voice with no further encouragement. In addition, you should never punish your dog for coming to you when you call its name.

The first step in your puppy training would be to teach him his name. This will create a nice bond between the two of you. Call him using his name and teach him how to respond when called. These should be the primary words your dog needs to learn. Spending a lot of time interacting and playing with your puppy is the best way to establish a bond of love and trust. When he trusts you, he ends up being more responsive to all sorts of training.

Communication is key in the relationship with your dog. When training your dog, you must speak clearly and be consistent every time. Your tone of voice, choice of words, body language, and rewards and corrections should all send one unified message. Pay attention to what your doing is saying to you, too. He will inform you if he is overworked and anxious or if he is enjoying a great day.

In an effort to alleviate your puppy's teething pain, give him plenty of chew toys. You also need to try to have other items he might chew on out of his reach. Immediately replace it with one of his designated chew toys. Teething pain can be soothed by a washcloth that has been soaked in water and frozen.

Make sure everyone who is going to care for your dog treats him or her in the same way as you would. Consistency is key when it comes to training your dog. When the dog is given different commands for the same thing or given praise sometimes but not always, it can prove confusing and inhibit your dog's ability to behave the way you want him to.

You should not tie up multiple dogs where they can reach each other, no matter how friendly they are. The dogs chains could get tangled up and cause harm to the dogs as they struggle to get free. For example, a large dog could tangle the chain with a smaller dog, wrapping the chain around the neck of the small dog, causing it to die.

Understanding how dogs think can make dog training easier. If you know these things, you can get your dog trained in a way that is the best for them. People who know how dogs usually behave can train them better.
