What Breeds Of Hypoallergenic Dogs Are There?

By Billy Moss

If you are entertaining the thought of getting a hypoallergenic dog, you first need to decide which breed will work best with your family and lifestyle. Many hypoallergenic dogs are small or medium breed dogs. They usually require more attention than some of the lager breeds. Hypoallergenic dogs are great for people who suffer from allergies, since they don't have an undercoat, they don't shed, and also they do not lose any dander. Irish Water Spaniel, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, and Bedlington Terrier are all good choices of hypoallergenic dogs.

For those looking for a hypoallergenic dog that is larger than other breeds, the Irish Water Spaniel may be the dog for you. This breed has very short human-like hair that doesn't shed at all. Their coat must be regularly maintained by grooming at least every two months. These dogs are quite affectionate and friendly, and they rather enjoy swimming and exercising when the weather is warm.

If you like these breed, you will need to choose among its different varieties: The Traditional Irish, the heavy Irish, the English and the American. The only difference among these varieties is size. The short coat prevents the Wheaten Terriers from shedding. They need regular grooming to prevent rashes and clumping of hair.

The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is very friendly and will always welcome strangers. They enjoy getting their exercise and want to be around people as much as possible. These dogs should not be kept in an apartment. Since they love to run and bark, they do well in a backyard. If you are looking for an hypoallergenic dog that's a little bigger than the others, this breed would be a good choice.

The Bedlington Terrier is a small dog with a short coat that needs regular maintenance to avoid clamping. You should also provide regular grooming every couple of months. These dogs are energetic and enjoy exercise. They can make wonderful dogs for someone who suffers from allergies and lives in an apartment.

These breeds of hypoallergenic dog are not the only ones you have to choose from. There are other varieties that may appeal to your lifestyle and allergy issues. If you live in an apartment, small dogs are better because they don't bark as much and they need less space to run. If you own or rent a home, then you may want to consider a larger breed that will be able to run around in the back yard. Hypoallergenic dogs need grooming to keep their hair under control, since instead than shedding, it continues to grow. Not grooming regularly will cause matting, which will have to be cut from the coat in order to prevent skin rashes and other problems.
