What Is The Cost Of Dental Veneers

By Richard Greene

Dental veneers are a great option in the world of cosmetic dentistry to help obtain a more beautiful smile. If you are a candidate for having them, one of the next questions is how much do they cost? There is significant variation on the cost depending on how many teeth are being worked on.

In addition, one of the concomitant factors is the state of one's oral health in general. If a person has excellent oral health, the overall cost will be much less than if one has substantial tooth decay, gum disease, or other health issues. The reason is that these issues will need to most likely be addressed prior to considering veneers. This will take time and potentially cost a lot.

Dental veneers are typically not covered by dental insurance because they are elective. Other factors that may affect the cost can include:

Material type - Composites often cost less than porcelain ones

The veneer type-the nears that do not have a lot of preparation such as lumineers cost less than traditional veneers. Traditional veneers though, tend to last longer.

Practices in large metropolitan cities typically a higher than more rural areas. One factor that plays into this is the traditionally larger overhead in a city which then involves transferring the cost to the patient.

Fees charged by the lab that make the veneers will vary considerably in different regions.

The national average for composite veneers ranges anywhere from $250 up to $1500 per tooth. Porcelain veneers on average costs considerably more, at an average of $925-$2500 per tooth. Traditional types of veneers often last a decade and up to 15 years, while composites typically on the last 5 to 7 years. The Lumineers brand of veneers do not require enamel shaving and they are very thin often .2 mm. Those costs on average between $700 and $1300 per tooth.

In addition to the cosmetic dentistry work, there may be an upfront fee for the initial consult along with x-rays. These fees may range from $15 to $150. Often times dental offices are able to finance the treatments or have an agreement with a third party financing company such as Care Credit.

The good news is that dental veneers do not require any special care. People who have them should brush and floss as normal. And also people should avoid staining beverages such as coffee, tea, or red wine.

Alternatives to veneers include bondings and crowns. Veneers may be appropriate to those who want to change the shape of their teeth more than slightly, which is what bonding does.
