Are You A Good Dog Owner?

By Celine Europa

Dogs are wonderful animals full of love and affection, that's why they make such great pets and why they are so popular with millions of people. Unfortunately though some people mistreat their dogs and don't give them the life that they deserve. Caring for your dig is not just about looking after it when it's a cute puppy it's also about providing it with the care it needs when it's older or gets sick. If your dog suffers from canine seizures for example would you still be there for it? Let's take a look at how to care your dog.

We all know how affectionate dogs can be but did you know that they need you to show them affection too? Dogs need to feel that they are loved and cared about just like we do and so you need to show them regularly.

A dog also needs you to spend time with it whenever you can. A mistake that many people make is that they get a dog only to realize a little down the line that they really don't have the time to take care of them or even to play with them and so the dog ends up leading a pretty lonely life.

Animals can get sick just like humans. Would you stick by your dog if it got sick or would you lose interest in it and give it away? Your dog should become a part of your family and so if it is unwell then it needs your support and that often includes vet bills.

Can you afford to provide all of the things that your dog will need? Again many people wrongly assume that they can afford to take care of a dog only to find that they can't meet the costs of vet bills and regular food which means they end up giving them away.

Another important factor in caring for a dog is making sure that they get plenty of exercise. They are athletic animals and they need to be kept fit and of course they all love being walked.

If you have young children or other caring responsibilities then you maybe shouldn't get a dog just yet as your other responsibilities will mean that you can't give them the care and attention that they need.

You can see that there is a lot of work required to taking care of a dog, they are wonderful creatures and they deserve to be treated with love and respect. Personally I have cared for my dog who has suffered from canine seizures since he was a puppy and I will continue to do so.
