Characteristics Of Livestock In Show Steers

The eventful exhibition of purebred livestock is a common phenomenon in the United States. For instance, Texas show steers is an event held at different times of the year and draws people from all walks of life to come and witness. It is a showcase of purebred livestock with distinct qualifies and specifications.

In the industry of beef production for commercial purposes, classification of cattle is done based on characteristics that may be visually identified. This mode of classification was adopted by the management committee for the shows and has since been fully absorbed in livestock shows. Different characteristics are used in the USA to categorize breeds of cattle.

In most occasions, the Hereford, polled Hereford, Angus, red Angus and shorthorn breeds of cattle participate in the shows. They however have distinct qualities and characteristics that must all be met so as to qualify them for the shows. For instance, the Angus species must have a round sheath that is taut with a black skin color lest it risks disqualification.

During the show, a polled Hereford must exhibit superb qualities of purebred cattle of its species. This includes a red body with a white face and white legs. It must also have feather neck in order to qualify for this category.

For the shorthorn breeds, all their physical characteristics must be similar to those of purebred livestock of their own species. In spite of this, a shorthorn is absolutely disqualified from the show in the event that it has diluter colorations like yellow roan or simply yellow. It may also be disqualified when it is purely white without red color pigment on its ears, anus or tail.

texas show steers is meant to retain pure breeds of cattle that are endangered by crossbreeding. The interbreeding of livestock is widespread in the United States and this is a threat to the existence of purebred cattle.
