If you are fighting a rodent war, they love food. Any type of food will work when you're setting traps. Spoiled food also works, and using it in a trap is a good way to get rid of it once and for all.

If you think you may have termites, but are not certain, call in the dogs. They beat humans at sniffing termites out. A human that looks for termites may only be able to see if a third or so of your house is safe. A termite-sniffing dog, on the other hand, can detect termites anywhere in your home. Termites create the byproduct called methane gas from eating wood, which the dogs are able to smell.

The first step to fixing your pest problem is to determine the point of entry they are using. For example, there may be openings around your windows that are letting in flies or maybe the family pet is bringing in fleas or other insects. You can't fix your pest problem until you know how they're getting in.

Be sure and get rid of any fallen trees in your yard. Cut up the branches and the trunk to use for firewood. It can be used by you or given away. But don't forget to remember the stump as well. Stumps can easily attract termites to your home.

Flowers and plants should be placed further from your home as bugs are attracted to these. Additionally, line the perimeter of your home with outdoor tiles to discourage insects and rodents from entering. This also makes it easier for you to keep windows open because you no longer have to be concerned about any insects coming in.

Solicit advice from neighbors. For instance, if you have a rodent problem, your neighbor may have the same problem as well. They may also know tips you aren't aware of. You might also be able to alert your neighbor to a potential problem.

Find out where birds are hanging out and eliminate the area if possible. For instance, if they are on a tree limb, cut it back. If the bird enjoys landing on a ledge, then put in spikes so that their ability to comfortably land is eliminated.

With the knowledge you've just accumulated, you can now determine how to best combat your pest problem. You can more easily deal with your problem by using the tips you now know. You are going to be so happy you found out how to do this.
