Silver Labrador Retriever Puppies For Sale Locally

By Celia Hall

For those who are considering a companion for themselves, their children, an elderly family member or as an assistant for a disabled individual, a dog may be the right choice. There are some breeds that are especially noted for their friendly dispositions. This is one consideration when thinking about Silver Labrador Retriever puppies for sale.

In the U. S., Labradors are one of the most sought after breeds. They have numerous endearing traits and beautiful builds. Most people choose these dogs either for their gentle, friendly and loving temperaments or for their amazing hunting and retrieving skills.

They grow to a height of roughly 25 inches and usually weigh no more than 75 pounds when healthy and full grown. The males are only slightly larger than the females and both share the same solid build and sleek coat. Their tails are often described as otter-like because they begin thick at the base and taper out to a point but contain incredible strength, enough to clear a well stocked coffee table with ease.

The breed is easily recognized by the broad, squarish shape of their heads. The fur here is extremely short and tight but very soft and they have facial features that can express a wide range of emotions, show deep intelligence and alertness. With their floppy ears and Mona Lisa smiles, it is hard to mistake the friendly nature of these canines.

These canines sport a double coat which means that they have a very soft undercoat, similar to down, that keeps them warm and dry is in the colder temperatures, and an outer coat that is hard and virtually waterproof. Some advantages to this type of fur is that they shed only moderately and do not need to be bathed too often. Weekly brushing helps control the shedding and they should only be given a full shampooing when they begin to smell bad.

The American Kennel Club recognizes that the breed comes in many colors but only recognizes the black, chocolate and yellow versions as being acceptable for show competition. It is being debated by authorities whether other hues such as fox red, white, champagne, charcoal and silver grays should be given their own categories or simply be linked as variations on the three main types. All shades still share the same mannerisms and characteristics that make the Lab so desirable.

These dogs love to be with people and are at their best when receiving praise and affection or just playing around. They have remarkable patience but are not recommended as guard dogs since the most violent thing they are apt to do is lick an intruder's face off. Their temperament is famously even and it takes a lot to upset them, which is one reason they are often chosen as companions for those who need a gentle pet.

They are great fetchers and will spend long periods of time chasing thrown items such as sticks, balls and toys only to return them to their person and wag their tails, waiting on the next throw. They need room to run because they are very active and enjoy a good swim on occasion. If considering the benefits of the Silver Labrador Retriever puppies for sale, the list of positives is extensive.
