How To Clean A Chicken Coop For The Protected Heritage Chickens

By Camille Nicholson

A lot of people are now taking care of heritage chickens. Indeed, this is a good idea especially since this is the kind of animals that needs to be paid close attention to. When taking care of the said fowls, the most important point that he should always remember is that he needs to clean their coop as regularly as possible.

The first thing that the person will have to do is to pick a warm and sunny spring day to do the cleaning. This makes the entire experience pleasant for him. Not only that, the sunlight is also a good agent that will act as a natural disinfectant. It will certainly kill lots of pathogens around the coop. He can also expect the coop to dry faster.

It is necessary that he removes the animals. The coop should be vacant of the animals that usually reside them. Allow them to run around outside while he is cleaning their coop. Remember to open the coop's windows as well. This is the best way for him to get the air to circulate around. Fresh air is good for ventilation during cleaning day.

He should also consider removing other things in the coop besides the fowls. This basically refers to the bedding and dust that are accumulated in the coop. This is especially the case when the bedding used are already soiled. Do not forget to wear proper gear for protection when he is cleaning the entire coop.

It is also important that he does not skip out on the cobwebs. He should clean this one up, even with the use of just his broom. On the other hand, those people who are having difficulty in using the broom can make use of the shop vac. Choose the cleaning product to use for this properly. It can either be a natural one or a commercial one.

He should make sure to dry the coop properly. Allow it to air out and dry completely before he thinks of proceeding right to the next step. This is very important because the animals will get sick when they are exposed to too much moisture and a damp coop.

It is also necessary for him to consider whether it is a good idea to use a linoleum floor. The good thing about this floor is that it is a cheap one to use which should allow the life of the coop floor to his expand. It is also the best means for him to make the cleaning easier to do.

There are times when it is necessary for him to make use of the natural pest control. This is the best way for him to prevent the propagation of the population of mites and poultry lice. He should be proactive in eliminating the possibility of the existence of these pests.

Do not forget to add the fresh bedding. This means that the coop is now ready for the heritage chickens. Open the coop to them right as soon as everything is ready. The animals might be giddy at first but they will surely like the place in no time.
