Some Facts About English Bulldog Puppies

English bulldog puppies are an ideal dog to have if you have a small living space. They are a common breed that require little physical exertion. However they do require a moderate climate, as extremes of hot and cold can be detrimental to their health.

The origin of the name bull dog came from its use in bull baiting. Being a very powerful and courageous animal it would be used in the combat arena attacking the bulls neck. These days, the ancestors of these dogs are far from aggressive. A common family pet that is very reliable and gentle and shows affection to children.

When the puppy starts to grow and develop it may show signs of independence and be unyielding. Through positive training and also reinforcing acceptable behavior the dog can be trained and shown who is the leader. They do enjoy a lot of human contact and love to be sociable.

Exercise is key to controlling the dominance characteristic. A short walk a day on a leash will enhance the leadership role you are trying to achieve and also give the puppy valuable fitness regime. As the dog gets older you will find it will have less energy and be slower in its movements.

Always ensure that the puppy has access to water and keep him out of extreme heat conditions. High temperatures can be very dangerous for this breed of pup they can suffer from sunstroke. They can also can get very cold, so need a warmer environment in the winter months.

There can be a few health related problems with the breed. Allergic reactions can cause skin complaints, flatulence from the diet occurs and they are inclined to have issues with their eyesight.The dogs are also born with loose hip joints. The bulldog is also a brachycephalic breed, it has a flat nose and can be heard making snorting noises as it breathes. It therefore can suffer breathing difficulties.

Keeping the puppy clean and free from infection is fairly simple. Brush the fur to give it a good glossy look a couple of times a week. The wrinkles and folds around the face should be wiped clean frequently with a soft cloth and water. Removing all the dirt ad moisture within the creases.

If you don't want your puppy chewing your furniture whilst teething then getting a few chew toys is advisable. Due to the danger of chocking do not give the pup raw hide. A quiet place should also be set aside for the little one to sleep. They do like their own space, and a cage, basket or blanket is advisable.

A good natural diet is essential for the puppy. Having a low protein diet will help prevent growth spurts and muscle pain. Make sure that food is not accessible all day to prevent the dog over eating and becoming obese. Good quality supplements along with the dog food will also lower the chances of the dog developing cancer.

English bulldog puppies are usually born in a litter of four or five. Their average life span is eight years. They are a pack animal and will fit in to family very well and with the love and attention they deserve will honor the family with the same in return.
