How To Quickly Accurately Spot Mesothelioma Symptoms

By Tom Addison

There are some very revealing indicators that can help identify Mesothelioma symptoms. A deadly and rare form of cancer, this disease develops from the exposure and inhalation of asbestos. Asbestos is extremely toxic and the main cause of this fatal disease.

Asbestos fibers that are ingested will cause malignant cells to develop in the mesothelium. The mesothelium is a membrane which forms a lining for the pericardium, or the heart sac, the peritoneum, the abdominal cavity, and the pleura, the thoracic cavity.

Most diseases that are associated with asbestos typically begin in the lungs. There are particular indicators that can determine if an individual may have lung disease caused by asbestos. These symptoms include shortness of breath which means the person often runs out of breath, or gets extremely winded climbing a flight of stairs.

The disease causes the individual to take frequent breaths. Each day the person will be able to walk fewer steps before having to stop to rest and take a breath. The number of steps can drop from ten to five in a matter of a day.

Coughing is also a symptom of disease caused by asbestos. The coughing is caused when the small fibers of the asbestos irritate the tissue of the lungs. The coughing is an involuntary reaction of the body attempting to clear the lungs of the damaging fibers. Unfortunately the coughing does not relieve the lung irritation and may progress to coughing up blood.

Another indicator that the individual may have mesothelioma is an increase in sputum. Increased sputum is a natural response to the irritation caused by asbestos in the lungs. The body is attempting to get rid of the fibers that are irritating the lungs. Also, a sudden unexplained weight loss can indicate that the cancer has moved to additional organs. Because mesothelioma symptoms are evident in the advanced stages of cancer, it is important to see a doctor as soon as any are noticed.
