Keeping Your Dog Warm in the Cold Season

By Dirk Gruenberg

With Christmas being just around the corner, it seems that we will not have to wait for snow much longer. The sun already sets much earlier in the day and the temperature is dropping every day. The cold season has begun, and it is up to us that our four-legged friends will stay warm from now on.

Of course, just like with humans, you don't want your dog to get too cold. It would not be good for him and he could easily come down with an illness. To prevent that from happening, consider following the following steps.

One sure way that you can do to keep them warm is by keeping them indoors. This will help keep the chills away and they can also spend more time with you.

It might not be necessary if you live in a mild climate, but you can always think about buying clothing to keep your dog warm. One such piece of clothing would be dog shoes. They can keep his feet warm and keep him from slipping, too.

If you don't think shoes are enough, you might want to get your dog a sweater or jacket, too. These might be a nice addition to his wardrobe, if you are so inclined.

If you are the creative type, and if your budget allows for these types of expenses, you might also choose to get a sweater customized - with a holiday season theme.

You also need to make sure that your pet's bedding is at least 3 inches above the floor. This will help keep them warm during the night and will keep the draft away while they are asleep.

Sleeping on warm bedding will be a wonderful thing for your dog. And last but not least: Provide your dog with plenty of food in the cold season.

Just like humans, dogs tend to eat more during the cold season than during the summer. So please be mindful of that and generous in that regard.
