The upward thrust of the Nano marine aquariums during the last few years are doubtless the best of the worst ideas I have seen in a while. Don't take what I say as a total negative to the items generally as I find them extremely appealing and own a couple myself. My concern with them is nevertheless in the perception that tiny designer marine aquariums are for newbs and in fact they aren't.
Concerns arise however when one examines folk generally. There are two types of fish hobbyists the one that has interest, but is wore interested in the appeal of decor. For these hobbyist, anything beyond daily feeding and the occasional water change and clean they like to go no further. Then you have got the hobbyist that has got a passion for the life he is caring for inside that little cube of water. These passionate hobbyist seek to learn all they're able to as they want the life in their care to florish.
Nano tanks though aesthetically pleasing, offer a wide range of Problems associated with this general misinterpretation they are for everyone. This is not the case. For many Nano systems the directions are quite complete as specified in the first setup and in some cases some good proposals for newbie species for inhabiting the tank but beyond that you're on your own.
Herein lies the difficulty. Small marine tanks particularly anything under 20 gallons (Nano Tanks) are hard to maintain. In reality likelihood is you will be testing and doubtless adjusting water quality daily and 20 to 30 p.c water changes weekly. Easy tasks as feeding must be done with strict concern to over feeding as excess food waste is one gigantic avenue for nitrate and amonia buildup, which may have harmful affect on the animals in the tank. Other issues can include temperature control and lighting and its influences on water temperate and its own cooling. These are all Problems that go past the collusion desire of an amateur who has interest but no eagerness.
Nano marine tanks can add interesting decor to any design setting in your house. They're a wonder to look at and provide a glance of peaceable undersea life but they're not for newbs. They offer high maintenance that to a non obsessed hobbyiests will outweight the ornamental wonder of the tank itself. This of course in time leads to the desertion of the tank and the demise of the life that lived therein.
In closing, be cautious when choosing a marine aquarium, particularly if you're new to the past-time. Judge yourself and spend the time to understand the commitment that is required to maintain marine life. All life should be respected, treated humanely and never taken for granted..
