Dependence can be physical or psychological depending on the drug and the person taking it. Physical and psychological addiction need a unique treatment plan that addresses the reasons why someone became addicted to the substance in the first place. Sometimes, there seems to be no answers until the underlying causes are discovered. Occasionally, there are very few underlying reasons and the problem developed because of the friends that the addict grew close too.

Substance misuse causes harm to the addict, but also their family. It can be very difficult for family members having to watch their relatives misusing drugs or other substances. A lot of the time, loved ones do not know what to do about the addiction or how to help.

Addiction is on the increase, all over the world. It is the number one reason for crime. As a carer, it may be noticeable that the person is more worried about getting their fix than they are with other things. They may get angry or defensive when confronted about it.

Addicts have very secretive lives where they try to hide their addiction from loved ones. When asked about addiction, they may make up excuses and get defensive. Addicts often lie to their loved ones about the amount of medication they are taking. They struggle with saying 'no' to their addiction.

People may struggle to understand why loved ones are dependent on a particular drug. It can seem unbearable to think that their loved one is addicted to a substance that they cannot control. Some people blame themselves for the person becoming addicted to the substance. This is seen when children are addicted to substances that their parents have no control over. Sober living orange county helps addicts understand their behavior and seek help.
