Glucosamine And Chondroitin For Dogs

By Brian McIntosh

Glucosamine can greatly benefit dogs of all ages. Glucosamine increases joint fluidity and can help reduce inflammation, pain and swelling of joints in dogs. Dogs can have healthy, happy and active lifespans if their owners pay attention to their joint, bone, eye and coat and keep them in tip top shape with appropriate supplements, foods and grooming. Adding glucosamine to your dog's diet can help improve mobility, prolong your dog's active years, increase your dog's quality of life and reduce pain, inflammation and bothersome swelling of joints that cause suffering in dogs.

As a form of amino sugar, glucosamine is often used in a dietary supplement. It is usually found in seafood such as crabs, shrimps, and lobsters. Other crops are also good sources of glucosamine such as corn, wheat, and mushrooms. Glucosamine is found to be an effective ingredient that helps to reduce inflammation. This happens when its anti-inflammatory properties stimulates the body cells which produce cartilage. Once the cartilage is healed and replenished, there will be more lubrication in the surrounding joints thus reducing the pain and swelling.

Chondroitin is a compound made of a chain of various sugars usually attached to a protein that aids in building cartilage. Chondroitin is an important component of cartilage and provides the cartilage with the ability to resist compression. Commonly used in treating osteoarthritis, chondroitin is a valuable tool in the fight against canine joint pain and discomfort.

On the other hand, there are other organic compounds which are also know to help treat muscle inflammation. For example, Methylsulfonylmethane or MSM is widely known to reduce inflammation and pain caused by arthritis. However, please be wary of using this compound since the data are not yet properly documented by health experts. Do not rely on this compound unless it is already proven and validated by the medical and health professionals.

A double pronged approach to effective treatment for joint pain in dogs is the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin in one easy to administer tablet. Experts agree the powerful anti-inflammatory effects of the glucosamine combined with the cartilage rebuilding and repairing properties of chondroitin offer effective, efficient pain relief and arthritis and joint health support. Studies show when administered consistently for several weeks, dogs enjoy increased mobility when taking glucosamine and chondroitin for dogs.

If you want to keep your canine friend stay active and healthy, give him a regular dose of glucosamine and chondroitin for dogs. Do not forget to consult your veterinarian first and ask for brand recommendation. Just carefully read the guidelines and dosage instructions when giving them to your pet. You can also choose to use either a pill or a tablet but if you your dog does not like it, you can give a liquid form of chondroitin or glucosamine. Take care of your dogs now while you can. Spare them from the pain of arthritis by providing them a healthy dose of regular dog food that is rich in these two compounds.
