Best Minister is a thoroughbred and has been a successful race-horse. He is now retired and is used for stud duties. As a stallion, it is hoped that he will produce champion race-horses. He may also pass on the highly successful genes of his dam and her forebears and become known for producing good brood mares.
He is a bright dappled bay. A bay is a rich brown colour with black points (lower legs, mane and tail). He has a white sock on the near hind leg and stands 16.2hh (hands high). Horses are measured in hands. A hand is four inches. They are measured from the ground to the highest point of the withers as this is the place least affected by the way the horse stands and so gives the most accurate measurement.
Best Minister was foaled in 2000 and is by Deputy Minister, a was a champion North American two-year-old who went on to become a Sire of Sires. He traces back to Northern Dancer.
He has a very strong female line. His dam, Best of Memories, was by Halo. She had three wins as a three year old, winning some $75,000. To date, she has had ten foals, all of whom raced, and produced seven winners.
His grand-dam, All My Memories, also produced winning horses. She had eleven foals, of which nine were winners. They won races in England, Hong Kong, France, Ireland and North America.
He won over $250,000 in stake money. As a three-year-old, he was runner-up to Horse of the Year Saint Liam at Gulfstream Park. He was a consistent performer at distances a little over a mile.
In 2007, Best Minister stood his first season. The following year twelve foals were born. Thirty-four were born in 2009 and 12 in 2010. He has had a number of progeny earn over $1,000 in prize money so far. These include Jule's Gold, Becky's Dream, My Royal Knight, Da Mick and Janelle My Dear.
