The 10 Minute Technique To Getting Better Canines

By Mark Cser

If you are in the process of getting a dog or puppy there are many things to think about before you make the leap. Owning a dog is a lot of responsibility and can change your life, so you want to be sure to get the right dog to fit into your current lifestyle. Some breeds can have extremely different personalities than other breeds. You can choose to get either a purebred dog or a mutt. Dogs with parents that are the same breed are considered purebred dogs.

You are often a little more aware of the temperament and physical looks of the dog when you get a purebred versus a mutt. If you want to be able to choose what characteristics your dog has, go with a purebred dog. Most dogs are genetically predisposition to act a certain way; whether they love to play, need to run or are gentle dogs.

If you choose to buy a purebred dog instead of a mutt, it is vital that you go through a reputable breeder. Many purebred dogs can have health issues. It is important that the breeder knows the male and female dogs long linage and all of its past health information. Some breeders will even go as far as getting a genetic test so that you can be one hundred percent confident that they are doing their best to avoid any health issues that might arise.

It is important to some people to know that they are actually purchasing a purebred dog. Purebred dogs are the only dogs that can compete in dog shows. Getting the official American Kennel Club papers from your breeder guarantees that the puppy you are getting is purebred.

AKC papers will are proof that the both the male and female parent dogs were purebred and, in turn, that your puppy is also purebred. Three types of breeding exist; line breeding, out crossing and inbreeding. The most common form or breeding and also the most reliable is line breeding.

When looking for the right breeder, do a lot of research both online and in person. Pick a breeder who either belongs to dog organizations or a breeding club for the specific breed you want, these breeders usually have good references also. You have to be careful not to get an irresponsible breeder who might have inbred dogs with major health issues and sometimes behavioral problems.

Stay away from getting your new dog at a local pet shop. Usually at a pet shop you are not given the information about the dogs linage or what kind of conditions it was raised in.

Do all the research, like looking on websites and visiting numerous breeders before you make your decision. If these guidelines are followed, the dog you bring home will be happy and healthy.
