Benefits Of Homemade Organic Dog Treats

By Janell Bowers

Making homemade organic dog treats for your best friend is one way to show your love and gain her admiration. Along with showing your love, it is one of the greatest ways that you can improve her overall health and well-being. It is a cost effective way to know exactly what is going into your pet and to help ensure that she is at optimal health.

Much like buying prepackaged food at the store for your family, commercially prepackaged food for your pet can be expensive. When you make snacks and food for her at home, you will save money. You will also have the benefit of being able to shop the sales at your local stores as well as take advantage of the bulk food stores you normally shop at.

A common problem in our pets, obesity is not a sign of a healthy pet. Commercial foods and snacks can add to the problem. By preparing these things at home, you gain complete control over what your pet eats. You can include items that are healthy such as lean meat, vegetables and rice. By doing this you will be able to gain control of any weight problems in your pet.

You might think that making these things at home will just take too much time. Even if you have a typical busy schedule, there is time to make these healthy pet snacks at home. Most of them can be made in 15 to 30 minutes. Several days' worth of snacks can be made in advance and stored either in the refrigerator or the cupboard in an air tight container to be used over the course of a few days.

There are more chemicals and other ingredients that are questionable in many of the commercial brands. Many of these chemicals and other ingredients can cause allergies and other health problems in your pet. Some of these issues may include stomach and digestive disorders, liver failure and even cancers.

There are chemicals that are added to help preserve the foods and snacks. The preservatives can build up in your pet and cause her to have illnesses. Not only are the preservatives the cause of problems, but also fillers and soy products can cause allergies and other issues. Often pet owners are surprised to learn that the allergy their pet has is to their food, not fleas or another outside annoyance.

Other health concerns of a poor diet include a dull coat and heavy shedding. Some animals will also experience unusual behavior and may become either hyperactive or more sluggish than usual and others may experience a weakened immune system. In more severe cases the animal may have epilepsy, experience ear infections, bowel disease, weak bones, diabetes and more.

Homemade organic dog treats are beneficial to both your best canine friend and you. Not only are they cheaper to make than the commercial brands are to buy, but you will improve the health of your pet. You will also find yourself bonding with your pet in a way you never knew was possible. With the recent scares about pet snacks in the news, there has never been a better time to start making these products ourselves. It is not worth the risk to our pets.
