The Major Causes Of Urticaria, As Documented

By Aeron Mathews

If you try looking through medical literature, you are bound to come across many items devoted to the causes of urticaria. We'll try to discuss these causes further. We will even find ourselves getting more and more into the root of the matter on the causes of urticaria. For those who are not familiar with the term, urticaria is the condition that we commonly refer to as 'hives'. What you will have is a skin rash that is represented by itchy bumps on the surface of the skin. Red in color, these rashes are raised from the skin, making them easily noticeable as skin bumps.

To make things easier for us, there are two major classifications of the major causes of urticaria. The first classification will be those causes that are basically brought about by allergic reactions. All else - those that are not in any way related to allergies - fall under the second group.

People sometimes acquire this condition upon exposure to certain substances or elements in their environment. These allergic reactions to their environment is what brings about the urticaria. There are, for instance, some people who will develop urticaria upon using certain medications. Drug-induced urticaria is not unheard of; in fact, they are quite common. You can actually acquire urticaria from the pain relievers you take; if you have diabetes or suffering from convulsions, the medication you use could also cause urticaria. In fact, you should probably know that urticaria is a common side effect of the use of some potent medications. However, these medications are those that are needed in severe cases or conditions, and one cannot do without them. But since there is a graver or more severe problem that must be solved, people are ready to endure the urticaria and other side effects.

The second category of urticaria causes we identified is that of non-allergic causes. The development of the condition called urticaria cannot be solely attributed to allergens. Simple scratching of the skin can lead to some people actually ending up having a case of urticaria. We have even some people who exhibit urticaria whenever their skin gets firmly stroked. Rubbing of the skin could even lead to urticaria developing in some people.

The non-allergic causes of urticaria we have looked at so far are those that entail the skin being put under some sort of rough pressure. Urticaria can even arise in some people after they have experienced drastic and extreme changes in temperature. In this particular category, we have two subcategories of urticaria manifestations: those that are cold-induced and those that are heat-induced. But there are also a lot of people who easily develop urticaria after having been exposed to water. You can easily find a lot of skin creams to remedy this problem. On the other hand, there are also people who break out into hives after being exposed to the sun for prolonged periods. This exact condition goes by the name 'solar urticaria'.
