The Secret To Bulldog Puppy Training

By Selma Minnie

A bulldog owner should carry out bulldog puppy training as soon as they can. The entire process runs throughout the dog's life but the most important learning stage is the puppy age. At this age, the puppy is able to take in new commands. All it takes is practice and consistency. As the adage goes, one cannot teach old dogs new tricks. Therefore, this is a very crucial stage of the dog's life.

Research has established that there are various very effective methods that are recommended for use when training a dog. Positive reinforcement is on the top of this list. In other words, one simply rewards the dog each time they do something positive such as the obedience of commands. Conversely, negative behavior should not be condoned.

As for positive reinforcement, dogs will best work with food as a reward. The secret lies in their stomach. A bulldog will most certainly remember what to do in order to get some little snack. Other means of reinforcement may be used but the bottom line is, that is how they are naturally.

Bulldogs may tend to be very stubborn and this may extend to the level of wanting to exert some dominance over the owner. Inasmuch as one may want to be understanding in meeting the dog's needs, bulldogs may want to take this as an advantage so the owner should be tough in instilling discipline.

Immediately one gets a puppy they should begin crate training the dog so that it can get used to staying in the crate. Over time the puppy will get used to the idea and it will be the most preferred place to spend its time. It is the safest place to leave the dog especially when one is not away. Dogs love chewing and may end up chewing dangerous objects that may cause health complications or even death.

Moreover, potty training should also be carried out when the dog is still a puppy. This goes a long way in helping the dog to adopt a certain routine. As the dog grows older there are less instances of messing up the floor of the house.

As a final point, the bulldog is a very intelligent animal. Most people are of the contrary opinion but the secret lies in getting the dog to learn as well as adopt certain behaviors early in its life. In short, it is up to the owner to decide how their dog will behave.
